Munnar Holidays: Munnar Tour Packages

Welcome to Munnar Tours – the gem of God’s own country-Kerala. It is South India’s largest tea-growing region, so once you set foot on its lovely terrain, you will be greeted with emerald tea-green plantations on lustrous rolling hills. Munnar is a picturesque piece of land, always fresh and welcoming.

It is also known as the High Range of Travancore, and serves as the commercial estate of some of the highest tea-growing estates in the world.

Munnar, the town, can be a bit overwhelming for those trying to escape the hustle and bustle of the city life, but wander a bit further from the din, and the pleasant sight of emerald-green plantation will relieve your sore eyes. Munnar is so much more than a weekend getaway. it is a place for restless souls.

About Munnar
If folklore is to be believed, it is said that the Muthuvan tribal community were one of the earliest inhabitants of this region. The area was untouched and unexplored till the later part of the 19th century, when a sturdy wave of explorers came here to set up plantations. In the latter part of the 20th century, Munnar was redefined by the tourism industry as a beautiful tourist spot.

Best Places to Visit in Munnar

● Tea Estates
Munnar is known all around the world for its lavish and picturesque tea estates. And trust me, there are so many of them here, but don’t worry, you will never get tired of visiting them, because who does not like a touch of nature everywhere. The lush green tea estates, and the aroma of tea leaves are enough to capture your senses.

Some of the plantations here lie at an altitude of 2100 m making them among the highest in the world.

● Tea museum
Who knew that your modest cup of tea has a plethora of history attached to it? But tea museum showcases it and more. It is located at a distance of 1.5km northwest of the town. This museum basically is a demo model of a working tea factory and show the basic processes of tea making. This museum was established by Tata Tea and features rare exhibits and photographs that trace the tea industry, right from its formative years to the modern times.

This museum contains some unusual and unique equipments such as original 1905 tea roller, classic bungalow furniture, iron oven, manual calculators, 1909 EPABX telephone system burial urn, and other things related to tea and that era.

● Mount Carmel Church
It is the main church of Munnar. It was established in 1898, and it is the first Roman Catholic Church there. The Church is a standing witness to the transformation of Munnar from a quiet plantation town to a hustling bustling tourist centre.

This amazing national park, spanning over a 100kms, is nestled in the hills of Kannan Devan in Munnar, It houses the endangered Nilgiri along with other flora and fauna. The breathtakingly beautiful surroundings, and serenity in the atmosphere, make it an unmatched experience.

● Marayoor Sandalwood Forests
Located at a distance of around 42km from Munnar, Marayoor is a scenic place most popularly known for its sandalwood forest. But there is more to it. Marayoor is an ancient site and its presence can be traced to the stone age back to 10,000 BC, so visiting here would be something like a blast from the past.

And then there are the scented sandalwood trees to give you the necessary respite from the funny sights and smells you’d experience in the city.

This wildlife sanctuary is situated on the eastern side of Western ghats and flaked by Indira Gandhi Wildlife sanctuary on one side, and Eravikulum National Park on the other. It is spread in the area of 90 sq km and boats an impressive natural wildlife and plants. You can see a vast variety of animal species such as Nilgiri Tahr, tiger, spotted deer among the 225 species of animals that call this sanctuary home.

Munnar won’t disappoint the adventure junkie in you as you will get numerous opportunities to show your rock climbing and rappelling skills in this land of hills. The rolling hills of Western Ghats in the Munnar countryside seem inviting enough to give the adventure sports a try.

Food in Munnar
Munnar is a favorite summer tourist spot, so needless to say, the food is lip-smackingly good here. You can opt for the traditional Kairali thali, which is served on a banana leaf, and trust me, that enhances the taste of the items, and consists of mildly spiced vegetables, curry, payassam, and salad.

For breakfast, you can have an assortment of delicious and soft idlis and dosa. You also get iddiumppam with vegetable stew, which is an extremely popular rice-based Kerala delicacy. It is a heaven for meat lovers as well, because fish and buff are widely eaten here. Try the delectable fish curry once you are in Munnar, and you will not be disappointed for sure.

In short, Munnar is a heaven for food lovers. The spices of Kerala, as you’d already know, are among the best in the world, and give an inimitable flavor to the food. If you want, you should sample the spices and take them home, so that you can give an authentic Kerala flavor to the dishes you curate at home!
